Golden Langur (Trachypithecus geei)

Golden Langur (Trachypithecus geei) is a critically endangered primate species endemic to northeastern region of India. The species is under severe threat due to rapid degradation of its habitat. The Golden Langur Conservation Program of Dolphin Foundation is presently going on in the western part of Manas Biosphere Reserve. The major activities being carried out are – Conservation awareness program, Habitat contiguity Study, Survey of food plants availability etc.
 

Hoolock Gibbon Hylobates (Bunopithecus) hoolock:

Hoolock Gibbon, one of the most endangered and the only ape species found in Asom and is endemic to the northeastern region of India. It inhibits primary evergreen forests from 100 m to about 1370 m altitudes. In Asom they are mainly found in the rain forest areas located in the upper Asom districts viz. Jorhat, Dibrugarh and Tinsukia. Their habitat has been shrinking rapidly throughout the range of their distribution due to massive destruction of primary evergreen forests. Dolphin Foundation has been carrying out certain activities for conservation of the species in and around Dihing-Patkai Wildlife Sanctuary. A pilot survey has already been carried out and stakeholder consultations were organized in Dihing-Patkai Wildlife Sanctuary areas of Asom for development of a conservation strategy for protection of Hoolock Gibbon habitat. The necessary field interventions have already been planned in this regard.
